Wealthy heiress Caroline Hawthorne secretly weds a poor country boy, David Miller. A year later, her disapproving father, Mr. Hawthorne of Hawthorne Enterprises, tracks them down. Just as the couple is happily caring for their adorable boy and girl twins, Mr. Hawthorne barges in. Ignoring their desperate pleas, he forcefully takes Caroline and the twin boy away, renaming the boy Mason Hawthorne. David is left alone in the country to raise their little daughter, Emma Miller (Emmy).
